Summary
All
amhn legw statements in the New Testament are immediately followed by a break – either in the form of a comma
or the word “that” – even in the NWT (the only exception being Luke 23:43, NWT).
Please
note special emphasis is placed on amhn legw sayings in the New Testament by repeating amhn. The Gospel of John
repeats amhn for special emphasis 22 times.
Oti (oti, that) requires the break after legw umin in 29 of the 74 number of these
listed amhn legw statements. Removing these required breaks from the pool leaves 45 amhn legw statements that
have a break immediately following amhn legw that is not required by the inclusion of oti (oti, that) –
quite a significant New Testament witness to Jesus’ regular speech pattern.
Both
the Byzantine/Majority Text 2000 and the Textus Receptus (1550/1894) include amhn in Mark 6:11, but amhn does
not apper in this verse in the Nestlé-Aland 26. Since the manuscripts do not agree and inclusion would not materially affect this study, I exclude
Mark 6:11 here.
The
Textus Receptus (1550/1894) includes amhn in Luke 13:35. Amhn does not occur in the Byzantine/Majority Text
2000, nor the Nestlé-Aland 26. Since the manuscripts do not agree and inclusion would not materially affect this study, I exclude Luke
13:35 here.
