Who is the Armchair Scholar?
My name is Karen Clark and
I’ve been attending Second
Baptist Church in Cumberland, Maryland (see link
at bottom of this page) since we moved to Cumberland over a decade ago. I have a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration,
Computer and Information Systems (1992) and currently work as my church's secretary. My husband, Tom, is a Recreations Specialist
at FCI Cumberland and serves as Sunday School Director, as a deacon at our church and coaches 3rd-5th graders in the church
basketball league. We’ve been married eighteen years. We have three children, ages 17, 11, and 9.
I have also been blessed
with many opportunities to serve the Lord inside the church and within the Cumberland community. At church, I serve as treasurer. I also cover
the toddler nursery during Sunday School, teach in the Awanas program with my husband and another leader, and help
in crafts during Vacation Bible School (Tom helps in the gym J). In the community, I’m co-leader
for a 4-H club in South
Cumberland (Tom and I lead
juniors/intermediates/seniors while another volunteer lead Clovers) and we're both involved in Cub Scouts (I'm the
leader for both the Bear and Webelos II dens; Tom is Cubmaster). Tom also serves as teacher for the God
& Me religious awards program for Scouts while I teach God & Family.
I'm back to work on the
site after a very long hiatus in which I debated atheism, researched the formation of the New Testament canon as well as studied
the earliest New Testament documents, and taught myself a bit of Koine Greek. Enough to get by without relying so
heavily on transliteration, at any rate.
